4th Government Industry Dialogue on 3rd October, 2016

Dear Healthcare Leader,

Greetings from the Personal Connected Health Alliance (PCHA) & Continua.

initiated the process of setting up an Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP), with a primary objective to enable the creation of standards compliant Electronic Health Records (EHRs) for the citizens on a pan-India basis, along with the integration and interoperability of the EHRs through a comprehensive Health Information Exchange (HIE), as part of this centralized accessible platform. IHIP is envisaged to enable better continuity of care, secure and confidential health data/records management, better diagnosis of diseases, reduction in patient re-visits and even prevention of medical errors, better affordability, optimal information exchange to support better health outcome, better decision support system, and thus eventually facilitating improvement in the treatment and care of public health at National-Level.

IHIP is proposed to encompass various components like; eHealth applications, eHealth data and eHealth infrastructure. Business model for IHIP has been envisaged on the basis of a set of guiding principles - asset light platform, hiring infrastructure-as-a-service, offering application-as-a-service, cafeteria model of service offering on payment basis, and attaining financial sustainability in due course.

We have decided to host the 4th Government Industry Dialogue with the senior most officials of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, and key decision makers of the Healthcare industry, to discuss various ideas and options for IHIP.

January 01, 2013

Dear Friends,

Wish you a great year ahead

Last year was an important milestone for starting the pioneering 'Government Industry Dialogue' initiative in India. We had the first successful dialogue on 28th September 2012 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi. This dialogue was focused on healthcare policy & programs of the Government of India.

The first dialogue was addressed by:

  1. Dr.Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister;
  2. Shri Keshav Desiraju, Special Secretary – Health & Family Welfare, Government of India;
  3. Dr.K.Srinath Reddy, Chairman- High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on Universal Coverage & President, Public Health Foundation of India;
  4. Shri Anil Swarup, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India;
  5. Dr.Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GOI;
  6. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, President, Disease Management Association of India
  7. Dr.Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals

Besides the above speakers; Chairman, Managing Directors & CEO's of 50 top healthcare corporations expressed their views at this forum, to foster an era of joint working between the Government & the private sector.

The dialogue proved to be an ice breaker, and led to a better understanding of how the different programs of the Government are shaping up. The industry also expressed its keenness to work with the Government and help them in the execution of various programs.

Based on the feedback from the attendees, we have decided to host five dialogues this year on;

  1. AYUSH
  2. Chronic Diseases (NCDs)
  3. Telemedicine & mHealth
  4. Healthcare IT
  5. Research Agenda for Healthcare

We look forward to your support and cooperation, to move ahead with the goal of creating 'shared value' through 'collaborative working' between the public sector and the private sector to turn 'healthcare for all', from a dream to reality.

Seeking your support and involvement in our mission

Why This Government - Industry Dialogue?

The 12th five year plan is being referred to as the 'Plan for health', where the GDP spend on health is likely to be doubled with an aim to provide quality healthcare for all. The reality is that the Indian economy is passing through a very critical phase. On one side, we have a Government trying its best to deliver programs aimed at inclusive growth for the 'common man' despite its tight fiscal situation, and on the other side, we have the Industry that is struggling yet innovating to tide over the recessionary pressures and deliver affordable and accessible services to the same 'Common Man'.

In such a scenario, it is important that the Government & the Industry sit together, talk and explore options to work together with the aim of providing quality and affordable healthcare for all; the Goal of the 12th five year plan.

The Government needs to talk with the industry and the industry needs to talk with the Government, to create an understanding for a common goal, and develop a frame-work to bring complementary capabilities on the table.With this aim in mind, DMAI(www.dmai.org.in) decided to start talking with all the stake holders. We believe that, together we can accomplish the impossible! And so, we have initiated this 'Government Industry Dialogue', and we promise to turn around things together, working shoulder to shoulder.

We aim to create a Government Industry partnership by bridging the divide between the Government & the industry and address the challenges facing the nation, as a TEAM! As wherever the private sector and the Government are working together, healthcare indicators are faring better than otherwise!

Our first dialogue will take place in New Delhi on 28th September, 2012 at the Inspired Hall, Hotel Le Meridien. In the first meeting, the Government will highlight its focus areas, challenges and opportunities in Healthcare, for the industry to come together and make a difference. Industry will share its views on the possibilities of collaboration on these programs of the government. The format is a friendly dialogue.

This meeting will be addressed by Dr.Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister; Shri Keshav Desiraju, Addl. Secretary – Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Dr.K.Srinath Reddy, Chairman- High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on Universal Coverage & President, Public Health Foundation of India ; Shri Anil Swarup, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India; Dr.Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GOI; besides others.

This meeting will be attended by about 50 CEO's of the Healthcare industry from Pharmaceuticals, Hospitals, Nutraceuticals & Healthcare IT, giving adequate representation to the entire healthcare industry. This meeting is only limited to the CEO's, Presidents & Managing Directors of leading corporations in Healthcare.

'Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than in trying to solve them' – Henry Ford. The goal of this dialogue is to look ahead at working together with the spirit of optimism and find ways to work towards the common goal – Ushering in a new era of Government & Industry joint working to provide better healthcare to the common man.

'Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success' – Henry Ford

Leading media houses are covering this event from India & abroad

This is a pioneering and a break-through initiative for promoting Government- Industry Joint working, and I thank you for your invaluable support

Together, we shall strive hard to succeed!
